Well, as ominously promised, here’s the big announcement now that the press conference is over and the proverbial cat is out of the bag. I have two major projects that will be taking up the majority of my time for the next year. They are:

  1. I’m one of the 2016 recipients of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing’s Chris Clark Fellowships. I’ll be using the funding to offset the costs of composing/mixing/mastering/pressing a CD. The center-piece will be a multi-movement work on the theme of urban decay and renewal. I’m specifically looking at 1897 – 2015 and the rise/fall of the auto industry economy in the Rust Belt. Pretty heavy stuff. Scheduled completion is summer 2016.
  2. I’m working on a commission for the East Lansing High School Orchestra. This will be a single movement work for strings, percussion, piano, and live electronics – sort of a Bartok + Max/MSP thing. This will be premiered on their May 18th concert.

Subsequently, I’m not going to have a lot of free time as pretty much every waking moment will be spent working on these.

Oh, and practicing. I’m planning on doing another mandolin recital – with piano this time. Repertoire has already been picked out.
